260926 – Production release

Every aerodrome on your route gets a proper briefing, your weather now comes by plan, and traffic reaches you fresher than ever.

This release takes the development branch to production. It follows the 25 September release, and everything described there is already live.

🌦️ A sharper weather briefing

  • Your route’s aerodromes: the briefing now covers the aerodromes in your flight plan, with the TAF for each one (F07, F947).
  • SIGMETs where they matter: the briefing now searches for SIGMETs around each aerodrome on your route, not around a single point in the middle (F79).
  • Offline or unavailable: when you have no signal, winds aloft, SIGMETs and rain radar on the map now say you’re offline. “Data unavailable” means only that the data itself isn’t there (F85, F833).

📋 Weather by plan

The weather briefing now opens for every pilot, and your plan sets which sections you see. Every plan includes surface wind, sunrise and sunset, and the current METAR on each aerodrome report. Every paid plan adds winds aloft and rain radar, and Pro includes the lot. TAFs and the VFR check on the aerodrome report come with selected plans. The low-level winds behind the app’s own wind estimate stay free on every plan, because they’re a safety input (F1410).

🛩️ Traffic: quicker to your screen

  • Straight to you: on paid plans, a traffic change is now sent to you as soon as it happens, not held for the next scheduled update (F679).
  • Speed and track in step: each aircraft update now carries its position, speed and track together, so speed and track no longer trail the position by one update (F1413).

🗺️ Clearer map labels

  • Names that display properly: map labels now check every character they need, so names from around the world, and labels that run over more than one line, display cleanly (F799).

🛠️ Under the hood: leaner and proven under load

  • Traffic processing: each aircraft update now takes less than half the processing it used to. In our load tests, a typical position is stored about 35 milliseconds after it reaches us, down from 1.6 seconds, so the traffic you see is fresher (F1413).
  • Nothing left behind: every position was processed at today’s live traffic volume and at 1.74 times that volume. Our monitoring now counts any position that isn’t processed, and records how old each one is when it arrives (F1413).
  • Load testing: we can now replay real-world traffic at higher volumes against a full copy of the platform, so we can prove a change before it reaches you (F1413).

🔭 Coming next

  • A ridge-lift forecast for soaring pilots, built from our gridded winds and the lie of the land (F1412).
  • Traffic processing focused on where pilots are actually flying, for even fresher positions nearby (F1414).
  • Signing in with a single tap on the link in your email, with the typed code still there as a fallback (F1210).
